Kitchen hygine



Kitchen is the one place where the food we intake is kept or prepared. Therefore, it is utmost important to maintain the hygiene of this room in particular.

A few tricks that can work magic in maintaining a clean kitchen would be
  • Its always good to clean your refrigerator once in a week this can keep you fridge good as new and would make it easy to clean.
  • Always place an open box of baking powder in you freezer and fridge to fight odour problem. Also used and dried green tea leaves can serve the purpose. 
  • A slice of lemon in your fridge can also help the odour problem in you refrigerator.
  • Always make sure that every nook and corner is accessible in your kitchen, this will help you clean kitchen better.
  • Always rub your cutting board with a slice of lemon at the end of the day and wash it with water to make it appear new for ever!
  • Always place your knife upside down for the water to drip off the tip and the handle doesn't come out eventually.
  • while washing your stove, always run your soapy scrubbers around the stove, generally and wait for a while for it to soak, then it would be easy to remove the stains.
Cooking related tips:

  • do place a piece of bread in your cookie jar or cake box to help it remain fresh for long!
  • add a tea-spoon ghee to cooked rice before removing from heat to add nice aroma to your rice.
  • Always, let the lemon come to the room temperature and then run them over the kitchen counter under pressure and then squeeze to get maximum lemon juice off it.
  • While boiling corn add a pinch of sugar to add sweetness to the corn.
  • To retain vegetables bright colour, immerse them in cold water after blanching them.
  • For long lasting red chillies, remove their stem while storing them.
  • If you love soft idlis, do not beat the batter before pouring them to the moulds.
  • If your dal ( split gram gravy) has become overly salty, just put in a raw potato into it and it absorbs the excessive saltiness and improves the taste.
  • keep your rolling pin in the freezer for a while before using them so that the dough doesn't stick to the rolling pin.
  • Always pressure cook the potatoes with their skin on for retaining nutrients.
  • Always pressure cook potatoes without cutting to avoid it from becoming squashy.
  • To avoid water from eyes while cutting onion. De-skin them and cut them in to halves and immerse them in cold water for about 10 to 15 minutes before slicing them.
  • to avoid smell of frying fish from spreading in the house, lit a candle near by the cooking vessel.
  • to keep your coriander leaves, parsley leaves etc freshened for long wrap them in wet paper before placing them in the fridge.
  • for onion to cook faster add a pinch of salt.
  • If you do not have garlic, add a pinch of hing or asafoetida to the dish.
  • If you do not have lemon, tamarind or tomato you can substitute it with each other.
  • If you don't have ketchup, add a pinch of sugar to the dish instead.
