5 common mistakes in parenting

Parents would do anything for their kids, so much that some actions may effect them in a bad way.. Common mistakes parents do bringing up their child:
  1. Being too friendly or too strict:
Children love friendly parents but being too friendly will give them the idea of being equal to you. How this will effect them? They will not find it necessary to follow your advice especially if it is against their preferences. This can result in your child being uncontrollable and spoilt.
Being too strict, on the other hand, can cause insecurity and low confidence in your child. Besides this, your child will also grow up to be a rebel which may prompt him/her to take bad decisions.
Therefore, a combination of both the styles is ideal for child development. Even though the relationship between a parent and the child should be friendly, the child must acknowledge that the parent has the authority to guide the child against their will when needed.

2. No Punishments or Unkept Punishments:

Punishments are necessary for a mistake done by your child. Because it is the only way a child practically understands the relationship between a choice and a consequence. Physically harming the children in the name of punishment is a big "NO NO" as these physical assaults may scar their personality permanently. The ideal way to punish your child for the mistakes they have done is through actions as standing in a 'bad child corner' for a duration, a time out from their favourite activities and such depending on the age of your child. The punishment should be strictly followed so that the child realises that .
"When you make a choice, you choose the consequence as well".

3. Breaking a promise:

A child, looks upon his/her parents much more than you realise. And so, when you promise a play time or a story to your child, he/she waits eagerly for the moment you fulfil your promise. When you break a promise, no matter how small it is, you break the trust between you and your child. When this becomes continuous, the child starts feeling insecure, and unimportant and gradually start to detach from you. So, next time you break a promise with your child, make sure to apologise to him/her and compensate the broken promise with another promise kept.

4.Not being expressive:

Any child, as a matter of fact is expressive. It is only when they grow up do they become introverts, extroverts and ambiverts. It is absolutely important to express your love to the child, for him/her to understand your love for them. Children believe what they see than what they are told. So, no matter what your personality is remember to show your love to your child wholeheartedly.

5. Arguments and Fights :

You and your partner are the 2 most important people in your child's life. And he/she doesn't understand your misunderstandings. When you fight or argue in front of your child, with your partner, you are in other words encouraging habits of over thinking, fear, stress and insecurity in your child. These negativity will later on develop into mental and physical health problems like anxiety.

Effective home remedies for common cold for kids

Common cold and babies just go hand in hand. Especially when they are preschoolers. Parents can not stand it when there angels gets irritated by the slightest disturbance ever. Common cold especially deprives baby of their sleep and at times can slightly raise their body temperature.

It has to be noted that common cold doesn't go instantly at all. It has its time which is around a week and it is made sure to take that long. But there are some tips parents can do to prevent it and to bring it to control. Some ideas I tried and did work would be as follows:

1) the holy basil or tulsi, is actually a herb. Always make sure to boil the drinking water with a few leaves of basil leaves in it and only use this water for drinking purpose. This solves the problem to a maximum level. Preschooler's parents please follow this point.
2) if your baby has running nose or stuffy nose, use paediatric nasal drops. It helps even if it is running nose.
3) Try doing steaming. If your babies don't opt it, a technique i follow would be, i put some leaves or something in the steamer or make a mark on the steamer and try showing it to her while she un knowingly steams. Also if possible, place some holy basil leaves "OVER the steamer" where the steam come. It helps to a huge extend.
4) Rub, vicks or other such vaporizers very lightly over their chest, back, sides, throat, behind the ears. and try making them inhale its fumes.
5) make sure to clean the floor with "dettol" or other such sanitizers and not floor cleaners.
6) while going through the phase, drop a few of detol or which ever sanitizers used around the area where the baby sleeps.
7) also, if following any medications as per your baby's pediatrician, please make sure to complette each coarse.
I follow these steps and it does help.

Throat infection

When the throat starts to hurt while swallowing water or food is when we realise a throat infection. At times a throat infection can be painless but a constant low fever is an indicator as well. Cold water, dust, non clean water otherwise, mere climate can be a reason to it.

It is always advisable to have a physicians consultation for any problem but trying a few remedies at home can, at most of the times, cure the problem even before having to consult a doctor at all.
For adults or children alike,
1.Gargle with very salted hot water 4 times a day.
2.Drink only hot water.
3. Try substituting with herbal tea to ordinary beverages.

In case, you have severe throat pain it can take up to 2 days.

Throat infections in babies can be detected by having a look at their throat from inside the mouth. The area where the mouth ends and the throat begins would be reddish pink in colour and at times would have white blisters indicating a throat infection.
Small children do not drink much hot tea and water as their mouth is quite sensitive to temperature. In such cases, provide them with a straw through which they can help the hot tea bypass their sensitive mouths directly to the throat. Doing this, you can see the difference in a matter of hours. But again make sure it is not hot enough to burn their mouth..

SPORALAC

Sporlac is actually lactobacillus for kids. Its not a medicine but helping the gut with good bacteria to help them fight irritated bowel or loose motion.

When babies beyond 6 months have a loose motion mix 1 SPORLAC tablet in a tea-spoon of water and give it to your baby. Do this twice a day for 2 days and give only diluted milk and Wheat product for two days and from the 3rd day start the normal diet.

If the baby is fed formula milk, stop feeding the baby any other food for a day and feed only diluted milk.

SPORLAC improve digestion so no specific time for the intake. It encourages the good bacteria to thrive. At times, even the good bacteria die when the bad bacteria is killed by other medications. SPORLAC helps the good bacteria grow restoring back the health.

Bonnisan

This was my baby's magic tonic. when my baby was just a new born she would cry overnight and i would literally accompany her confused and worried on whats wrong. Its later on my father recommended me this medicine which he tried on me when i was a baby. And there! that was it! it cures any gas problems, indigestion, and many such problems (it is mentioned on the bottle) to accolade it all, it increases hunger.

thinking about side effects? well no, it is Ayurveda so there is no side effects at all. I have heard it is like grape juice that doctors recommend while babies have digestion related problems.

(A written on the bottle):
"Bonnisan is free from alcohol, chloroform, opium, sedatives and sodium bicarbonate. The herbal extracts in suspension in bonnisan, form, small clusters. These are essential therapeutic ingredients ans perfectly safe. hence shake the bottle before use.

Bonnisan is clinically proven digestive tonic for newborns and infants. It improves appetite, promotes weight gain and healthy growth, and keeps babies free from digestive upsets, gas, colic, gripes, diarrhoea or constipation."

But also i would like to add to that, it is never advised to make any medicine, a habit for your baby. Therefore, i would not recommend regular consumption of any medicine on a daily basis.
